The rules change every CA should know about

For 70 years, ICAI restricted how CAs could promote themselves. That just changed.

Until recently, a Chartered Accountant in India was essentially banned from advertising. No website beyond a basic listing. No client-facing content. No Google presence. The only legal way to grow a practice was word-of-mouth referrals. Which meant waiting years for your network to mature.

In 2024, the ICAI Council relaxed several of these provisions. CA firms can now publish a proper website, share educational content, and be discoverable on Google. As long as they stay within the Code of Ethics.

Is having a CA firm website really allowed by ICAI?
Yes. ICAI permits Chartered Accountants to maintain a firm website subject to specific guidelines, primarily the rules under the First Schedule of the Chartered Accountants Act and Council guidance on websites. Our entire methodology is built around staying inside that boundary. We share a compliance checklist before launch and will not include anything that puts your COP at risk.
What is "Google My Business" and why does my firm need it?
Google My Business (now officially called "Google Business Profile") is the free listing that appears on Google Maps and on the right-hand side of Google search results. When a client types "CA in Bengaluru" or "tax consultant near me", Google shows a small map with three or four firms. That's the listing. It includes your firm name, phone, hours, photos, directions, and client reviews.

This is the single biggest source of new clients for local CAs today. People used to ask their friends; now they Google first. Without this listing, your firm is invisible to that search.

It is not the same as a "directory" or aggregator marketplace (like Sulekha or JustDial), which ICAI prohibits because those platforms solicit clients on your behalf. Google Maps is your own verified listing. You control what's on it. We set it up with fully compliant copy: no fees, no superlatives, no solicitation language.
Can I publish client testimonials on the website?
No, and we will not include them. Client testimonials, ratings, or named endorsements typically fall under solicitation. Instead we focus on credentialing (FRN, years of practice, partner profiles, areas of expertise, thought-leadership articles, training credentials, recognised memberships). These build trust without crossing the line.
What's actually included in monthly maintenance?
Hosting renewal, security padlock (SSL) renewal, daily backups, security patches, software updates, uptime monitoring (we get alerted if your site ever goes down), one round of minor content updates per month (for example, adding a new partner profile, updating your office address), and the compliance monitor that emails you whenever ICAI updates relevant guidance. For Growth and Authority plans, monthly article publishing is also included (1 article on Growth, 4 articles on Authority).
Why does Authority give more value per rupee than Growth?
Authority's monthly fee is just โ‚น1,000 more than Growth, but you get: lifetime domain & hosting renewals (Growth bills these separately at roughly โ‚น6,000/yr, so you save that every year forever); 4 articles per month instead of 1 (4ร— the content); 15 review-request templates per month instead of 5; advanced Google Maps profile setup; local search ranking work for "CA in your city"; separate landing pages for each service; brand kit; quarterly strategy call; and priority 4-hour support. If you plan to keep your firm online for more than 2 years, Authority pays for itself.
Do you handle the GST invoice and provide a service agreement?
Yes. You'll get a tax invoice with our GSTIN (29AFAFS7527P1Z7) and a written service agreement covering scope, deliverables, IP ownership (you own the site and content), confidentiality, and termination clauses. Payment is split: 50% on kickoff, 50% on launch.
What if I already have a website that may not be compliant?
Book the free consultation. We do a 15-minute compliance review of your existing site and tell you exactly what is risky. If we need to rebuild, we handle the move without losing the Google rankings you've already earned (we set up redirects from your old pages to the new ones so visitors and Google find everything in the right place).
Who owns the website, content and accounts after handover?
You do, fully. The domain is registered in your firm's name, the hosting account is in your firm's name, and the Google Maps listing is owned by your firm. We are listed only as a manager during the engagement. If you ever stop working with us, you keep everything. The website, the content, the listing, the email IDs, all of it.
Can you also help with paid ads or social media campaigns?
Paid solicitation ads for CA services are not permitted under the Code of Ethics. What we can do is run educational and awareness content (for example, explainer articles published on your own knowledge hub) that complies with the rules. This is part of the article output included in Growth (1/month) and Authority (4/month).
Where does my form data go and is it private?
Form submissions go into our private spreadsheet system and to our team's WhatsApp / email. We do not sell, share or syndicate your data.
